The Basics of Breast Feeding

Thank you for choosing this article from our collection of excellent written papers. It will hopefully give you a pleasant time reading.
Most experts agree that breast feeding is the healthiest way to feed your baby. Even the top quality baby formula on the market cannot equal breast milk when it comes to nutrition and protection. Breast milk is packed with antibodies and nutrients that protect your newborn from infections. Not only that, but a mother's milk contains the perfect balance of components designed to help their baby thrive. It's thought that babies who are breast fed more often achieve their ideal weight rather than being underweight or overweight. The first breast milk your baby gets is called colostrum and is especially healthy.
Breastfeeding not only has benefits for the baby receiving the milk, but for the mother providing it. One of the most widely touted benefits is that of weight loss. Nursing helps burn off calories, making it easier and faster for a new mom to return to her pre-baby weight. And, the uterus even returns to its normal size more quickly. This can help minimize bleeding experienced after giving birth. It's also believed that feeding your baby this way can lower the risk of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and osteoporosis.
Benefits of feeding your baby via the breast has other benefits as well. There are clear financial benefits, because you won't need to purchase expensive baby formula. There are no bottles to wash and sanitize, no need to worry with preparing formula or heating bottles in the middle of the night. Because babies who receive breast milk are sick less frequently, you'll also cut down on pediatrician visits and medical costs. Plus, when you breast feed your baby, you encourage a deeper mother/baby bond. Even the environment benefits because there is no waste such as used formula cans or plastic bottle liners to throw away.
Despite all the benefits of breast feeding, some women are not able to breastfeed for one reason or another. Some women do not feel comfortable feeding their baby via the breast. Whether or not you choose to breastfeed is a highly personal choice that you may want to discuss with your doctor. If you have anxiety about feeding your baby this way or are unsure if you can do it properly, there are classes you can attend and professionals who can guide you, so be sure to ask your doctor for help if you need it.
